Beat the Heat

Summer is already here! With record temperatures and fire season upon us, the heat is making it very hard for us to maintain our exercise levels.

Here are our top 3 tips for staying active in a safe way on those blistering hot days:

  1. Stay hydrated:

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Try adding slices of fruit to make water more palatable.

  • There are also many apps on your phone to help keep on track with her hydration levels.

2. Take advantage of Christmas shop rush:

  • A brisk walk in the shopping centres in the glorious aircon. PLUS the quicker your moving the less widow shopping may happen, which will save $$.

  • There are also walking groups in the shopping centres, check out the heart foundation walking group website for more information,

3. Exercise earlier in the morning or late afternoon/night:

  • Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl changing the time you exercise is another way to stay cool even without an aircon

  • No matter whether it is a morning walk on the beach, a swim in the pool or 15min bouts of exercise in the morning and at night you will be avoiding peak time for those harsh UV rays that lead to skin cancer (but it’s still important to slip, slop, slap!)

Stay, active, stay safe and stay cool! If you have any concerns with maintaining your exercise during these hot days, please consult with our Accredited Exercise Physiology staff at Total Exercise Physiology.
